Crime and Coffee Couple is a true crime podcast hosted by married couple Allison and Mike Pernecky. Each week, Allison researches a true crime case in depth, while Mike hears the story for the first time along with the audience.
That means his reactions, questions, frustrations, and occasional disbelief are real. There is no script telling Mike what to say and no pretending that he already knows where the story is going.
The result is a conversational true crime couple podcast built around detailed research, real reactions, respectful storytelling, and the kind of back-and-forth that happens when a husband and wife sit down over coffee and try to make sense of cases that often make very little sense at all.
If you’re looking for a new true crime podcast to add to your rotation, especially one that feels less like a scripted documentary and more like sitting at the table with two people talking through a case, that’s what we try to create every week.
How Crime and Coffee Couple Works
Allison is the researcher and storyteller.
She spends hours digging into court records, news reports, interviews, documentaries, public records, and other available sources to understand not just what happened, but who the people involved really were.
Mike intentionally stays away from the case before recording.
He doesn’t read the notes. He doesn’t research the ending. In many cases, he doesn’t even know the basic details before Allison begins.
That dynamic allows listeners to discover the case alongside him.
Mike asks the questions that come naturally in the moment, challenges things that don’t make sense, and reacts without knowing what is coming next.
It’s one of the things that makes Crime and Coffee Couple different from many traditional true crime podcasts.
The Cases We Cover
We cover both well-known and lesser-known true crime cases from the United States and around the world.
Our episodes include:
- Missing persons cases
- Unsolved disappearances
- Murder investigations
- Suspicious deaths
- Cold cases
- Serial offenders
- Domestic violence cases
- Cases involving failures in the criminal justice system
- Stories that received far less attention than they deserved
Some cases are familiar to longtime true crime listeners. Others are stories many people have never heard before.
We especially value cases involving victims whose stories have been overlooked, forgotten, or reduced to little more than a headline.
True Crime Without Forgetting the Victims
True crime is entertainment, but the people at the center of these stories were real.
They had families, friendships, plans, flaws, personalities, and lives that existed long before they became associated with a crime.
We believe those lives matter.
Our goal is to tell compelling stories without losing sight of the victims and the people who loved them.
That doesn’t mean every episode is relentlessly serious. We’re a married couple. There is naturally humor, disagreement, sarcasm, coffee talk, and plenty of banter between us.
But when it comes to the victims and their families, respect comes first.
Why Coffee?
Coffee has always been part of the show.
Some people gather around a bar. We gather around coffee.
Crime and Coffee Couple grew out of the simple idea of sitting down together with a cup of coffee and talking through a true crime story.
That’s still what the podcast feels like today.
So whether you searched for a coffee true crime podcast, a coffee and crime podcast, or just wanted something interesting to listen to with your morning coffee, you’re in the right place.

Meet Allison and Mike
Allison Pernecky
Allison is the researcher and primary storyteller behind Crime and Coffee Couple.
She’s the true crime obsessive in the relationship and the person responsible for finding cases, researching the details, building the timeline, and guiding each episode.
She approaches each story with curiosity, empathy, and a belief that the details matter.
Mike Pernecky
Mike represents the listener who is hearing the case for the first time.
He deliberately avoids researching episodes beforehand so his reactions during the show are genuine.
Mike asks questions, challenges assumptions, looks for inconsistencies, and occasionally says exactly what everyone listening is probably thinking.
Together, we’ve found that the combination of deep research and genuine first-time reactions creates a very different kind of true crime conversation.
A Husband-and-Wife True Crime Podcast
There are plenty of excellent true crime shows.
What makes ours different is the relationship at the center of it.
We’ve been married long enough that we don’t always agree, we interrupt each other occasionally, and neither one of us is particularly interested in pretending otherwise.
That natural dynamic is part of the show.
Listeners aren’t just hearing a case presented to them. They’re hearing two people process it together.
If you’ve been searching for a husband and wife true crime podcast, married couple true crime podcast, or true crime podcast hosted by a couple, that’s exactly what Crime and Coffee Couple is.
An Independently Built True Crime Podcast
Crime and Coffee Couple was built from the ground up by the two of us.
What started as a husband, a wife, a microphone, and a love of true crime has grown into a community of listeners who join us every week.
We are proud of the personal connection we’ve maintained as the show has grown.
Listeners suggest cases, share episodes, send us their thoughts, disagree with Mike, agree with Mike, and regularly become part of the conversation.
That community is one of the biggest reasons we continue doing the show.
